US officials headed to Jamaica aircraft crash site

Airline safety investigators from the United States are on their way to Jamaica to try and help find out why an American Airlines flight careened down a runway and stopped just short of the Caribbean Sea.

Airline safety investigators from the United States are on their way to Jamaica to try and help find out why an American Airlines flight careened down a runway and stopped just short of the Caribbean Sea.

Jamaican officials say 44 people were injured during American Airlines Flight 331’s rough landing Tuesday.

Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board officials left Washington Wednesday morning on their way to Kingston. They were accompanied by officials from American Airlines, Boeing Aircraft Co. and GE Aircraft Engines.

The investigation is being led by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority. U.S. officials want to be on hand to see ifany safety problems are found that might need to be dealt with.
