LA goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts made two saves to earn his 10th clean sheet of the season.
LA Galaxy record (13-3-4) for (43) points
HARRISON, N.J. (Aug 14th) – The east coast west coast rivalry ended with three (3) points in the most anticipated match of the year. Los Angeles Galaxy forward Edson Buddle scored again and secured a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls last Saturday evening, in front of 25,000 fans at Red Bull Arena.
Buddle’s 13th goal on the season came in the 10th minute to give LA the early lead. The goal was his first in the league since July 22 against San Jose and his fourth in six games since returning from the World Cup.
The Red Bulls held most of the possessions, but was unable to breakdown the Galaxy backline of Sean Franklin, Omar Gonzalez and Greg Berhalter.
Mexican national team captain Rafael Marquez made his first home start for the Red Bulls after missing Wednesday’s game against Toronto while playing for his national team against Spain.
LA goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts made two saves to earn his 10th clean sheet of the season and his first since June 26 at Toronto FC. The 10 shutouts are one more than Ricketts recorded in 2009, his first year with LA. The Jamaican international is now one shutout short of tying Kevin Hartman’s record of 11 clean sheets in a single season, which was set in 1999.
Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena watched from a suite after spending two days in a New Jersey hospital. Associate Head Coach Dave Sarachan and Assistant Coach Cobi Jones led the team.
