Besides love, hate and betrayal, Samuels looks at the issues of don-man-ship and how it has impacted the island of Jamaica for decades.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – ‘Who A Di Don’, starring longtime Jamaican comedian, Oliver Samuels (as Uncle Joshie), brought much needed laughter to the Hollywood Park Casino, Inglewood.
The curtain came down for one night only with cast, entertainment phenomenon and veteran co-star Audrey ‘Dance-Hall-Queen’ Reid (Sylvia), Ruth Ho Shing (‘Auntie’ Debbie) and Brian Johnson (Malcolm).
This thrilling production kept the audience laughing long after the two hours performance.
We’ve watched this comedic icon on stage for decades in ‘Oliver at Large’ and many other performances. But, this was a grand night for Oliver who penned and co-directed his first play as ‘Who A Di Don’.
Besides love, hate and betrayal, Samuels looks at the issues of don-man-ship and how it has impacted the island of Jamaica for decades.
The story depicts a family who relocated from the rural side of Jamaica and started a successful business in eastern Kingston.
The owner was killed and his son wanted to avenge his father’s murder. Uncle Joshie tried to talk him out of it but eventually got caught up in a riot with the neighborhood ‘don’ in the community.
Although the riot scene never made it into the theatrics, the audience saw the after effects of Uncle Joshie in a bloody head wrap and clothing, whilst the confused nephew tried to hide the illegal gun used in the conflict.
After all the commotion, the play ended with uncle Joshie heading back to the country dressed in a typical Oliver fashion – a bright and extremely colorful shirt - which had the audience rolling with laughter.
CaribPress caught up with the veteran actress Ms. Audrey Reid to find out more about “Who A Di Don”. “The play was originally written by Peter Appleton and was re-written by Oliver Samuels.” Asked what’s next for the cast, ”We will head to Jamaica to get ready for the Boxing Day play titled, “Boy Blue” and hopefully it will be making it to Los Angeles in 2013,” she stated.
Overall “Who A Di Don,” a very funny, witty and entertaining play which is highly recommended to anyone who haven’t seen it as yet.
