LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy will honor various club legends during the team’s match on Friday, April 7 at StubHub Center against the Montreal Impact as part of Legends Night. Former LA Galaxy players Landon Donovan, Cobi Jones, Carlos Ruiz, Pete Vagenas and Clint Mathis will be on hand and will receive a special recognition at halftime of the contest, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Spectrum SportsNet. Additionally, three LA Galaxy Season Ticket Members since 1996, the team’s inaugural season, will receive special recognition during the match at StubHub Center. Landon Donovan, the all-time leader in goals and assists for MLS and the LA Galaxy, helped lead LA to four of the club’s record five MLS Cup titles (2005, 2011, 2012, 2014). Donovan retired from the game in 2014 before rejoining the Galaxy for the second half of last season.
Cobi Jones is the LA Galaxy’s all-time leader in games played, games started and minutes, represented the LA Galaxy from the team’s first-ever season in 1996 until 2007, winning two MLS Cups (2002, 2005) and two U.S. Open Cup trophies (2001, 2005). He currently is the Galaxy’s lead analyst on Spectrum SportsNet, the television home of the LA Galaxy.
Carlos Ruiz scored over 60 goals for the Galaxy in just three seasons (2002-04) and helped lead the club to its first-ever MLS Cup in 2002, when he scored 24 goals during the MLS Regular Season, the most of any LA Galaxy player during a single season. That year, he scored the game-winning goal in the 113th minute of a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution in the 2002 MLS Cup.
Pete Vagenas, the current General Manager of the LA Galaxy, previously played for the Galaxy during nine of his 13 years in Major League Soccer and was a part of the Galaxy’s 2002 and 2005 MLS Cup championships. He was named club captain ahead of the start of the 2005 season and led the Galaxy to MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup victories.
Clint Mathis played for the Galaxy from 1998-2000, making over 60 appearances with 15 goals, before returning to the club in 2010 to make nine additional appearances. Mathis currently serves as a studio analyst for Spectrum SportsNet.
