John Travolta plays mobster John Gotti in upcoming movie

Gotti’s rise to the top of the New York underworld to become the boss of the Gambino crime family, the multiple trials and prison sentence will be documented in the film “Gotti” which hits theaters June 15.

Gotti

Considered as one of the most powerful, influential and feared names in the world of organized crime John Gotti used a combination of cunning, guile, street smarts, and ruthless determination to scale to the heights to becoming the head of the most powerful criminal organizations in New York’s history.

In the upcoming film “Gotti” John Travolta plays the “Dapper Don,” a nickname Gotti earned for displaying a level of charm, charisma and style.  Stacy Keach plays his underboss Aniello Dellacroce and Kelly Preston plays his wife  Victoria.

“Gotti” is directed by Kevin Connolly who worked closely with the Gotti family. “I wanted to portray John Gotti as authentically as possible: the good, the bad, and the dangerous. I don’t think the movie sugar coats any aspect of Gotti as a gangster. But at the same time I hope I have shown that he loved his family, was loyal to his men, and that he was a hero to the working class men and women his organization protected. I now understand better the expression ‘Honor Among Thieves.’ As a young actor growing up in NY, John Travolta was larger than life. I feel blessed and extremely humbled to have had an opportunity to direct Mr. Travolta as the Teflon Don.

Gotti Jr. recently discussed this in detail with The New York Postcomplaining that he felt the movie was too short compared to the extensive material featured in the 600-page autobiography. “This should be a 10-part series,” said Gotti Jr., also noting the film’s relatively low budget of just below $10 million. “[Travolta] had to act the sh*t out of this movie because there’s no exploding buildings or crashing airplanes,” claimed Gotti Jr.. “You even get the sense, in court scenes and bar scenes, that we were limited on extras.”

Gotti’s rise to the top of the New York underworld to become the boss of the Gambino crime family and the tumultuous turn he faced including the multiple trials and prison sentence will be documented in the film which hits theaters  June 15.
