Sony Pictures taps veteran publicist as Marketing VP

Ellene V. Miles is joining the studio in the newly created position.

PR veteran Ellene V. Miles is joining Sony Pictures’ motion picture marketing team in the newly created position of senior vp intersectional marketing, charged with creating multicultural and inclusion-based strategies for all the studio’s films.

Miles, who will take up the new post on Aug. 13, will report to Andre Caraco, co-president of domestic marketing, and Paul Martin, who heads Sony’s corporate diversity and inclusion office.

Describing Miles’ role in a staff memo Tuesday, Caraco said she “will craft broad, 360-degree diversity-based marketing strategies that will inform all facets of our film campaigns including publicity, creative, digital, media, research and promotions. The role will connect and align these operations in this space to ensure our campaigns achieve maximum exposure to the widest possible audiences.”

Miles most recently served as vp of Terry Hines and Associates’ targeted marketing division, the MRKT, with which Sony has had a long-standing relationship, and as principal and founder of EV Miles Media, a specialized media relations agency. Prior to that, she was director of publicity and programming at director Ava DuVernay’s Agency, launching film and television titles including “Girlfriends”, “Dreamgirls” and “Collateral”, and was publicity director at Atlanta-based entertainment and lifestyle marketing agency Liquid Soul Media.
