America’s most dangerous cities in 2012

Forbes releases its comprehensive list of the most dangerous cities in America. Detroit, Michigan tops the list of cities with high crime and murder.

Forbes determined the various cities’ rankings on the list by analyzing United States cities with over 200,000 people living in them. They considered the violent crime rate which was reported by the Uniform Crime Reports database from the FBI.

According to Forbes, the top ten cities on the list have similarities in maintaining a steady crime rate with an eye on the number of murders and rapes. To assist with determining the danger in a city, the population is compared to the number of crimes and types of crimes committed.

This list, the latest crime-ridden city list, is based on 2011 data reported to governmental agencies.

In a similar report last year, it was reported that some of the nation’s largest cities such as New York City and Chicago avoid making the list by not turning in data – or not turning data in on time. Obviously, that does not make those unreported cities any safer.
