ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. (Saturday, February 19, 2011) – The much-awaited celebratory launching of AOJAH (Alliance of Jamaican and American Humanitarians) finally happened last Saturday night at The Harlyne J. Norris Pavilion, twenty miles south-west of Los Angeles.

AOJAH is a 501© (3) non-profit organization founded in 2010 by a dedicated link of individuals in Los Angeles County, reaching out to make a change and difference in the lives of many.

The launch let anyone unfamiliar with the organization know their vision and mission which is all about working collaboratively to provide quality healthcare and education programs and services to the poor and underprivileged throughout the local communities and the Caribbean.

The organization’s initiative was well received and stirred up many, drawing a crowd of hundreds from far and near, including Shari Belafonte (daughter of Harry Belafonte, actress, model writer and singer), Debra Ehrhardt (actress of the one woman play, “Jamaica Farewell”) and Dorothy McLeod (President of Jamaica Cultural Awareness).

President Joan Crawford-McDonald thanked friends and supporters that came out despite the inclement weather.  The event was a moment for everyone to not only enjoy the celebration, but to also support charitable giving to an organization that address vital community needs and human services.

Throughout the night, the founders talked about the vision and the way forward for AOJAH.  This sparked up event goers to join the organization, as well as to give charitable donations to help move forward.

The event included a flurry of activities from a glittering cocktail reception, to live musical performances by Cover 2 Cover, a silent and live auction featuring vacation and sports packages, a game wheel with prizes, as well as mouth-watering cuisine by Exotic Flavors Catering.

The new organization is comprised of Joan Crawford-McDonald (President), Richard Fray (Vice President and Physical Fitness Outreach Coordinator), Gloria Blackburn (Vice President, Medical and Dental Mission), Patricia Perry (Vice President, Education Mission), Rosemary Wilson (Vice President, Community Outreach), Maxwell Sinclair (Vice President, Public Relations), Hermin Hussen (Treasurer), Caren Adams (Secretary), Joan Henry (Appointed Member) and Angela Fray (Appointed Member).
