Edson Buddle scored again and has all the Galaxy goals thus far – seven goals in four matches.

Buddle scored two goals as the Galaxy remains unbeaten on the season with a 2-1 win against the 2009 MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake (RSL) Saturday night (April 17) at the Home Depot Center, Carson, California.

The Galaxy is off to their best start since 1998 with a (4-0-0) record, they ended a six-game winless streak to Real Salt Lake (1-2-1).  And a near 21,000 fans were on-hand for the sweet revenge as the Galaxy down the Champs.

The first goal of the match was scored at the 12 minute mark, when Galaxy striker, Edson Buddle, sent a 7-yard header past RSL keeper Nick Rimando.  The play began with a corner kick from Galaxy ‘skipper’ Landon Donovan.

With Buddle’s first half goal on Saturday night, he has tied Carlos Ruiz’s MLS record for the most consecutive goals by one player to open a season.

Ruiz scored the Galaxy’s six goals of 2002 and overall 24 goals on the season.  Buddle then set a new MLS record with his game-winning goal in the second half, becoming the first player in MLS history to score each of his club’s first seven goals.

“Edson had some great shots tonight and he finished two,” said Real Salt Lake Midfielder Andy Williams.

LA Galaxy Jamaican goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts ended his three consecutive clean sheets record when he conceded a goal from the Real Salt Lake skipper, Kyle Beckerman to equalize the match in the 40th minute at 1-1.

LA Galaxy Goalkeeper Coach Ian Feuer had this to say about ‘keeper’ Donovan Ricketts and Josh Saunders: “They are doing really well.” “The team is 4-0 with only one goal so far.”  “Saunders is not playing right now.”  “But what he has been doing in training and pre-season games have been awesome,” Feuer added.

The Galaxy had to wait until the second half to seal the deal.  In the 76th minute, it was Chris Birchall who started the feed with a short pass to Brazilian midfielder Juninho, who then laid the ball off to Buddle who sent a right-footed shot past RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando.  The assist from Juninho was the first in his MLS career.

Real Salt Lake Midfielder Andy Williams said on the game: “We had a very important goal right before the end of the half and tried to keep possession of the ball in the second half.”  “I thought we did well probably up until the 75th minute.”  “I don’t know if the guys got tired from our Wednesday game, but Edson is in fantastic form right now.”  “If you give him an inch, he will take a mile.”

The injury bug has hit the Galaxy Midfielders — Dema Kovalenko, Eddie Lewis and Clint Mathis all missed the game because of injury.

Midfielder Michael Stephens had his first start of the season, replacing Brazilian defender Leonardo, who missed the game with a right quad strain.

Galaxy Defender Sean Franklin was forced to leave the game in the 43rd minute with a left heel sprain.
