Galaxy 2010 MLS Supporters’ Shield winner and Buddle takes home three awards.

LA Galaxy opens the 2010 MLS playoffs against Seattle Sounders on Sunday, October 31 in Seattle

CARSON, Calif – Nearly 25,000 fans watched the LA Galaxy clinched the 2010 MLS Supporters’ Shield and first place in the Western Conference and the top spot in Major League Soccer (MLS) with a 2-1 win over FC Dallas Sunday evening at The Home Depot Center.

David Beckham and Juninho scored for the Galaxy.  Beckham’s second goal on the regular season came in the 33rd minute.  And Juninho provided much needed help to give the Galaxy a 2-1 lead in the 46th minute of the match.  This was Juninho’s second goal as well.

The lone goal from FC Dallas came in the 22nd minute with midfielder Atiba Harris finding the back of the net.

Chris Klein and Eddie Lewis each played the final regular season game of their MLS careers in the game, with each coming on as second half substitutes.

At the end of the game, Los Angeles Galaxy announced their annual team awards, and forward Edson Buddle took home three awards.

Congratulations to Edson Buddle who won the club’s Most Valuable Player, the Budweiser Golden Boot with 17 goals on the regular season and MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year for his active involvement the Galaxy Foundation.

Meanwhile, the club’s Defender of the Year was taken by Omar Gonzalez.  Gonzalez narrowly edged out Jamaican international and Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.

By winning the Supporters’ Shield, the Galaxy earned a spot in Group Play of the 2011/2012 CONCACAF Champion League, bypassing the preliminary round.

The LA Galaxy will begin their quest for a third MLS Cup Championship with a postseason matchup against the Seattle Sounders in the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinal Series on Sunday, October 31 in Seattle.
