‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ ‘Roma’ receive Spirit Awards

Film Independent handed out honors today at the 34th Spirit Awards ceremony earlier today.

2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards  - ShowBarry Jenkins timeless romance drama “If Beale Street Could Talk,” received three awards at the Spirit Awards, which was held this afternoon on the beach in Santa Monica.

“Sorry To Bother You,” “The Wife ” and Roma also received awards at the ceremony which aired live today on IFC and Facebook Watch .

“If Beale Street Could Talk,” won Best Feature, Best Director and Best Supporting Female,  “Sorry to Bother You” won Best First Feature; “The Wife”  won Best Female Lead for lead actress Glen Close and “Roma” won Best International Film.

Now in its 34th year, the Spirit Awards recognizes the achievements of American independent filmmakers and promotes the finest independent films of the year to a wider audience. Presenters included: Sterling K.
