Judi Shekoni’s character seeks revenge in ‘Heroes Reborn’

“She’s lost her son and is seeking to avenge his death,” says British actress Judi Shekoni who plays Joanne Collins on the new NBC drama “Heroes Reborn.”  “If you imagine being a mother and losing your only child, it definitely takes you to a dark place. She feels it’s her mission in life to seek revenge for the people she believes caused his death.”

A continuation of the NBC sci-fi drama “Heroes, in which ordinary people discover that they have special abilities, “Heroes Reborn” returns to the fold and develops new layers to the original superhero concept.

“The mythology is the same and no rules or logic are broken,” Shekoni continues. “It’s a great way to introduce all the characters, as you have the old and new characters together, which is all very exciting.”Heroes Reborn - Season 1

Shekoni, a show business veteran, who has appeared on every major television channel in the U.K.; from the #1 show “EastEnders” to the Hallmark drama “The Hidden City, admits to being a huge “Heroes” fan.

“I have watched the original series and binge watched the first season. I am very interested in people with special powers, abilities and human potential. Television shows that tap into that aspect that we are more than we think we are grabs me,” shares the actress who played Zafrina, the leader of the Amazonian vampires in the final installment of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.”

13 episodes have been taped of “Heroes Reborn” in which we’ll see Shekoni and her co-star Zachary Levi battle people with special powers.

“In the first episode, you will see me going after a person who I want to eradicate. Then as the show progresses we try to take down as many people with special abilities as possible. There’s stuff everyone can relate to,” she continues. “It’s a show that deals with human possibility and potential and it touches on some of the elements that are going on in our world right now that people can resonate with.”

Shekoni’s film credits include roles in “Garfield 2,” “Jekyll and Hyde,” “For Christ’s Sake,” “Private Moments” and “Echoes of War.” She will also play Hippolyta the Queen in a film adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
