The entrepeneur and L.A. sports legend says Price is a “champion for jobs” who will lead the charge to revitalize economic development in South L.A.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the Los Angeles basketball legend and business titan who helped redefine economic development in South Los Angeles, has endorsed Sen. Curren Price for L.A. City Council in the 9th District.

Johnson, whose endorsement is one of the most coveted in the May 21 citywide election campaign, called Price’s candidacy “a rare opportunity for voters in the 9th District to elect a leader with the experience and leadership skills.”

Added Johnson: “Curren’s plan, to boost the economy in Southeast Los Angeles by making the 9th District friendlier and more attractive to business, is the right strategy for attracting investment to the community.

Price called Johnson “a very important voice in our community, whose success on the court and as a businessman is a testament to his sound judgment. Time and time again, he has shown the ‘Magic’ touch in South Los Angeles, and his support underscores the growing enthusiasm for our campaign to build a ‘New 9th District’ full of hope and opportunity.”

The Price campaign is supported by a broad coalition of leaders and organizations, who include the L.A. County Federation of Labor, the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce; the California Chamber of Commerce; the Central City Association of Los Angeles; Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; City Councilwoman Jan Perry and Congressman Tony Cardenas; Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod; Latino Legislative Caucus Chair Ricardo Lara; retired Congresswoman Diane Watson; State Sen.
