March 27, CARSON, Calif. — Edson Buddle header gave the Los Angeles Galaxy their first game win over the New England Revolution (Revs) at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night.

The Galaxy quickly secured three points to start off the 2010 Major League Soccer (MLS) season opener. The game ended with Galaxy 1 goal to none for Revs.

Galaxy put their mark down in the first 6 minutes of the game.

New England’s midfielder Joseph Niouky #23 made a foul slide tackled against LA’s defender Todd Dunivant #2 giving up a free-kick.  Captain Landon Donovan made the 32-yard free-kick which Buddle converted into a header goal.

Midfielder Eddie Lewis left the game in the 26th minute with a left foot contusion injury.  Lewis was replaced by Alex Cazumba.  The Galaxy’s three new Brazilian players, Alex Cazumba, Juninho and  Leonardo, each made their Galaxy and MLS debuts in the game.

The Revolution made only one shot on the goal and were quickly halted by the Galaxy’s keeper, the Jamaican big man, Donovan Ricketts. He ended with a clean sheet and looked a bit more confident in the box as he entered into his second season with the club.

At the post game press conference Coach Bruce Arena had this to say.

“We are certainly happy with the 3-points in the opener game, we struggled last year to get 3-points, it took 4 games last year.”

After the game, Galaxy’s striker Buddle said, “It’s was nice for us to be able to score in front of the home crowd.”

And continued to say,  “It was a good ball, we had to accept the pace early in the game and Landon’s good service at a good pace and I was able to redirect the ball to the target.”  “I am to score so quickly in the season.  With Bruce giving me a little confidence and saying that I am going to be here  — It really helps to move forward.”

He concluded, “Staying healthy is one thing I want to do to help maintain consistent scoring.”

The Galaxy returns to the field on Thursday against their housemate Chvias USA with the first kick slated for 8PM.
