LL Cool J honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The entertainment icon is the first rap artist to amass ten consecutive platinum-plus selling albums to date.

LL_Cool_JThe two-time Grammy Award winning recording artist, actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist was honored with the 2,571st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The ceremony came one week after his birthday and just a few weeks before he hosts the Grammys for the fifth consecutive year next month.

Russell Simmons, Magic Johnson, Queen Latifah and Sean “Diddy” Combs were among those who came out to support the icon at the event which was held in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard.

LL spent most of his speech thanking them and his family for the impacts they had on his career.

“Just know that I really, truly and deeply from the bottom of my soul appreciate this award,” he said. “And I want to say one last thing, and that is: ‘If a task is once begun, never leave it ’til it’s done; be thy labor great or small, do it well or not at all.”

LL, who burst onto the hip hop scene in the 80s, has remained a musical and cultural force. The entertainment icon who has found great success crossing into multiple mediums is the first rap artist to amass ten consecutive platinum-plus selling albums to date. As an actor, he has starred in numerous movies from Oliver Stone’s “Any Given Sunday,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “S.W.A.T,”  “Kingdom Come,” “In Too Deep,” “Toys,” “Slow Burn”  to television shows “30 Rock,”  “House” and has successfully transitioned to one of the consistently highest rated shows on television with the CBS hit primetime drama series, “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is an internationally-recognized Hollywood icon. With approximately 24 star ceremonies annually broadcast around the world, it remains one of the top visitor attractions in California.
