Mariah Carey describes American Idol stint as like “hell with Satan”

Carey didn’t put a name to the Satan in question, but it’s widely assumed that she was referring to fellow panellist Trinidad-born hip-hop star Nicki Minaj.

NEW YORK, United States, Thursday November 21, 2013 – Mariah Carey’s latest single may be titled “The Art of Letting Go,” but it looks as if she might still be burdened by bitter baggage when it comes to her ill-fated stint on American Idol.

During a recent radio interview, the American pop diva said her time as a judge on the show was like “going to work every day in hell with Satan.”

The revelation was aired on “The Angie Martinez Show” on New York radio station Hot 97 and came in response to a question about her season on the American Idol panel.

“Honestly? I hated it,” she declared.

“Here’s what I was led to believe: I was the first person signed on. … I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment. … I thought Randy Jackson will be there. I’ve known him forever. He used to play bass for

“But it wasn’t that. It was like um … hell — like going to work every day in hell with Satan.”

The multiple award-winning singer backpedalled, saying, “Nah, just playing,” adding, “It didn’t affect me that much. But I was disappointed.”

Carey didn’t put a name to the Satan in question, but it’s widely assumed that she was referring to fellow panellist Trinidad-born hip-hop star Nicki Minaj.

The two divas reportedly feuded constantly during their season on the show earlier this year. At one point, Carey even beefed-up her security following alleged threats from Minaj – allegations that the Young Money rapper adamantly denies.

Country singer Keith Urban was also a panellist and will be the only returning judge from the year of the Minaj-Carey catfights. He will be joined by Jennifer Lopez, who last judged in 2012, and Harry Connick Jr.
