Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne

Director Paul Greengrass and Damon are once again joining forces for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise.

Matt Damon returns to Bourne franchise

In 2002, Matt Damon played a highly trained killing machine whose body is scooped out of the Mediterranean sea. We followed his loss of memory tale as he gratefully accepted a handout from his rescuer and became the subject of a man hunt. Bourne’s reflexive genius at getting out of any sticky situation entertained and engaged audiences, and the success of that movie spanned the sequel “The Bourne Supremacy” in 2004, which received a similar positive critical and public reception.

Paul Greengrass will again direct the next installment of the Bourne franchise

Directed by Paul Greengrass (pictured above), Damon reprised his role as Jason Bourne in both the second and third film, “The Bourne Ultimatum,” which was released in 2007.

Now Paul Greengrass, the director of “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum,”  and Damon are once again joining forces for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.

For “Jason Bourne,” Damon is joined by Oscar winning actress Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”), Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series.  Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, and Greengrass, Damon, Gregory Goodman and Ben Smith also produce.  Based on characters created by Robert Ludlum, the film is written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.

Check out the teaser trailer below for the film which releases in theaters October 7th
