MLS Western Conference playoff field set; Knockout Round on Wednesday

Whitecaps travel to FC Dallas on Wednesday for the Knockout Round, while the LA Galaxy will face off against nemesis Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on the weekend of Nov 1-2.

The 2014 MLS postseason is now set, as the Vancouver Whitecaps became the 10th and final team to book their spot with a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening, also locking in seeding for the Western Conference in the Knockout Round and Conference Semifinals.

The Whitecaps will travel to face FC Dallas on Wednesday in the Knockout Round, and the winner will face the Supporters’ Shield-champion Seattle Sounders in the Conference Semifinals. Dallas or Vancouver would host the first leg of that series on the weekend of 11/1-2, with the second leg set for Nov. 10 in Seattle.

On the other side of the bracket in the West, the LA Galaxy will face off against frequent playoff nemesis Real Salt Lake. RSL will host the first leg of that encounter on the weekend of 11/1-2 before traveling to Southern California for the second leg on Nov. 9.

Two games on Sunday, Columbus Crew-Philadelphia Union (4 pm ET, UniMas) and Sporting Kansas City-New York Red Bulls (8:30 pm ET, ESPN2), will determine the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 seeds in the East. Any of Columbus, Sporting, and New York can finish in any of those three spots heading into Sunday’s games. D.C. United and the New England Revolution have clinched the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively, and will host the second legs of the Conference Semifinals.
