NAACP Image Awards Announces Presenters

Taraji P. Henson, Sterling K. Brown, Octavia Spencer, Trevor Noah, Janelle Monae, Issa Rae, Mike Colter and Mykelti Williamson are just some of the celebrities who will present awards at 48th NAACP Image Awards. 

The NAACP Image AwardsHosted by Anthony Anderson, the Image Awards annually celebrate the accomplishment of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and will broadcast live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on February 11 on TV One.

A 90-minute pre-show will air LIVE from the red carpet from 7:30-9pm ET.

Beyoncé, still fresh off her 9 Grammy Nominations, leads the pack in the music category for the 48th NAACP Image Awards with 7 nominations, followed by her sister Solange Knowles, who received 5 nominations. Other nominees who snagged multiple nominations in the music category include Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar who received 4 nominations. In the movie category, films “Fences,”  “Hidden Figures,” “Loving,” “Moonlight” and Nate Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation” will battle for the best motion picture.

The event also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors and LeBron James will be presented with the NAACP “Jackie Robinson Sports Award,” while Harvard Law professor Charles J. Ogletree, Jr. will be honored with the NAACP “Chairman’s Award.”

Past recipients of the prestigious Chairman’s Award have included former Attorney Gen. of the United States Eric H. Holder Jr., Aretha Franklin, Forest Whitaker,  Bono and (then-Sen.) and former president Barack Obama.

The NAACP Image Awards is attended by many of the top names in the entertainment industry. Last year’s event, which also aired on TV One in February 2016, attracted some of the biggest names in film, television and music including Viola Davis, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Kerry Washington, LL Cool J, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Laurence Fishburne, Spike Lee, Loretta Devine and Sylvester Stallone.
