Nicki Minaj wins awards for female artist and album of the year

The singer dedicated her award to Kim Kardashian.

nicki-minajThe 44th annual People’s Choice Awards, which honores the best in film, TV, music and pop culture kicked off Sunday night at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Fans got to see if their picks won Sunday at the only major awards show voted on entirely by the public for fan favorites in movies, music, TV and digital.

Kat Graham and Lil Rel Howery presented the award for album of 2018, which went to Minaj’s “Queen.” Minaj also won female artist of 2018 as well and thanked “all of the queens around the world” in her acceptance speech.   She also said she was dedicating her award to Kim Kardashian for looking so good in her dress.

John Legend presented the 2018 people’s champion award to Bryan Stevenson, a lawyer, professor, activist and author who is fighting against racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. Stevenson is the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative as well. Legend sang U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love)” as audience members waved their lit phones in the air. Best action movie went to “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Other highlights at this annual event included Rita Ora performed “Let You Love Me” off her new album, “Phoenix.” Melissa McCarthy received the inaugural icon award, Victoria Beckham was awarded the fashion icon award and Chrissy Teigen presented reality show of 2018, which went to “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Black Panther” star Danai Gurira received the action movie star award.

Minaj also opened the show performing her single “Good Form”  and “Dip” with Tyga.
