One dead after a shooting at Christmas Market in France

Multiple shots have been fired near a Christmas Market in central Strasbourg.

Shooting in FranceAt least one person has been killed and at least six more have been injured in a shooting near a popular Christmas market in France, police said Tuesday.

The gunman is still at large, police added.

“Incident taking place. Please stay calm and await official communications,” officials tweeted.

The shooting reportedly took place near Strasbourg’s Christmas market, which is popular with tourists. Security officials have cordoned off the area and trams have been stopped, following the reports of gunfire.

French police are calling the situation a “serious public security event” and are asking anyone nearby to remain indoors. Security forces are coordinating to lock down the area, where the shooter is still believed to be at large.

We are getting a clearer picture now from officials. Apparently one person dead in shooting in Strasbourg, six injured.

Security forces are securing two perimeters. One very large (see picture), one close to Cathedral where Shooter is believed to be at large.
