Reggae international artiste Buju Banton wins 2011 Grammy.

A first for Banton who won a Grammy for the Best Reggae Album category for his project, “Before the Dawn.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sunday, February 13, 2011) – This is a bitter sweet pre-Valentine’s Day victory for Reggae music notorious son winning his first Grammy for best Reggae album this year at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards tonight in Los Angeles at The Staples Center.

Banton whose real name is Mark Myrie was arrested in December 2009 for allegedly buying cocaine from undercover agents with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.

His trial began in September 2010 in Tampa, Florida.  However, the jury failed to reach a verdict after three days of deliberation and a retrial was ordered.

The retrial begins on Valentine’s Day, Monday, February 14, 2011.
