The ‘Underground’ Movement continues

‘Underground’ was recently honored with a number of recognitions including four NAACP Image Awards nominations.

In celebration of the Underground Railroad thriller’s highly anticipated return, WGN America’s hit series “Underground” will unveil exclusive first looks and and behind-the-scenes of its upcoming second season at this year’s Savannah College of Art and Design’s 2017 aTVfest next month.

The series stars and creators will host a panel discussions and audience Q&As at the annual festival. The festival will also honor “Underground” with its annual prestigious Cast Award for outstanding contributions to the art of television.

Among those scheduled to appear are series stars: Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Amirah Vann and Aisha Hinds as well as co-creator and executive producer Misha Green.

The series, which follows a group of slaves who escape a Georgia plantation,  was recently honored with a number of recognitions including four NAACP Image Awards nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Amirah Vann) and Outstanding Directing in a Dramatic Series (Anthony Hemingway).   Additionally, the African American Film Critics Association named “Underground” as Best TV Show (Cable/New Media) and the second highest show overall for 2016, and is also honoring director Anthony Hemmingway with their 2017 Horizon Award.
