Too much Galaxy for the Whitecaps: Fell 3-0 to the LA Galaxy

LA grabbed a win at home with goals from Magee, Keane and Donovan.

CARSON, Calif. – (Saturday, June 23, 2012) – A perfect evening at home Saturday evening for the Los Angeles Galaxy, with a 3-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Galaxy Head Coach Bruce Arena’s side scored all three goals in the first 45.  And maintained the lead at the final whistle.

An early goal in the 16th minute, as Mike Magee in the box, sent a loose ball past Joe Cannon in the Whitecaps goal.

More goals poured from Robbie Keane (30 minute) and Landon Donovan (41 minute).

A dominant performance from LA saw them outperform the Whitecaps in possessions (52.3% vs. 47.7%) and attempts on goal (18 vs. 11).

LA defense of A. J. DeLaGarza did well to shut down Whitecaps strikers including rookie forward Darren Mattocks (Jamaican International), who can ‘run like the wind’ to score goals.

After the match, CaribPress caught up with Jamaican International Darren Mattocks who had this to say on the 3-0 loss.

“The Galaxy is a pretty good team, with a lot of experience guys.  It’s one defeat.  We will stay focus, be humble and regroup for the next match.”

Martin Rennie, Vancouver Whitecaps Head Coach had this to say about Mattock’s performance.  “He [Mattocks] is a good player.  He did not have an amazing night tonight, but he looked dangerous at times.  He has done well this season.  He is obviously finding his way into the league.  He is a rookie but he’s got a lot of potential and could be a good player.”

It’s all about wins,  ‘three’ points and getting to the 2012 Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs.

With their first loss in five games, the Whitecaps have 26 points and 7-4-5 (win-loss-tie) on the regular season.

As for the Galaxy, with consecutive wins in three games, they moved up the ladder in the Western Conference standings to position 5 from 7, with 20 points and a record of 6-8-2 (win-loss-tie).

Next up for LA: They travel up North for a matchup with the top team in the west, the San Jose Earthquakes (with 33 points in league play].  This match kicks off on Saturday, June 30 at 7 pm PST.

Next up for Vancouver: The team will travel to the Colorado Rapids for a July 4th match at 6:30 PST.
