Directed by R. J. Daniel Hanna, the film is written by Erin O’Connor and produced by M. Elizabeth Hughes, Stacey Parks, Maurice Black, Erin O’Connor and Rob Pfaltzgraff.
Emmy-Award winning actress Uzo Aduba will star in the drama inspired by a true story of a struggling inner-city mother who sacrifices everything to give her son a good education.
Titled “Miss Virginia,” Aduba, who is best known for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the Netflix original series “Orange Is the New Black” will play the lead character Virginia in the film, which is directed by R.J. Daniel Hanna.
Notable recent releases from Vertical Entertainment include Amma Asante’s “Where Hands Touch” which stared Amandla Stenberg.
“The Miss Virginia team is delighted to partner with Vertical in bringing the inspiring true story of Virginia Walden Ford to audiences across the US,” said writer-producer Erin O’Connor. “Her story is one of grit, determination, and the transformative power of a mother who refuses to give up on her son.”
Aduba won her Emmys in Comedy (2014) and Drama (2015) for her performance in “Orange Is the New Black” which returns to Netflix this Friday for the last season.
