WGN America premieres new series ‘Underground’

John Legend serves as executive producer on the series which centers on a group of slaves planning a daring 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation.

The red carpet event included a screening of the series first episode, which was followed by an after-party with the cast, crew and VIP attendees on the hotel’s upstairs rooftop lounge.

Producers in attendance included Academy Award-winner and series executive producer John Legend, co executive producers and creators Misha Green and Joe Pokaski. Also in attendance was director Anthony Hemingway, cast members  Jurnee Smollett-BellAldis Hodge (pictured right), Alano Miller, Theodus Crane, Amirah Vann, Johnny Ray Gill and civil rights activist Peggy Preacely who is the great, great granddaughter of escaped slaves William and Ellen Craft.

10 episodes have already been taped of  the thrilling series which centers on a group of slaves planning a daring 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation.

“Underground” premieres on Wednesday, March 9 at 10pm ET/PT on WGN America.
