Will Uzo Aduba win a Screen Actors Guild Award?

The countdown to the 21st SAG Awards begins.

Aduba at the EmmysShe won the 2014 Primetime Emmy Award for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the hugely popular Netflix television series “Orange Is the New Black.” Fans are hoping this Sunday Aduba will also snag her first SAG Award for the prison drama. However, the darling of TV who is nominated for best performance in a comedy series faces steep competition in the category. Her fellow nominees include “Modern Family’s” Julie Bowen, Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie”), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”) who won last year.

All the nominees (except Aduba) have been nominated for the same role and category multiple times. Falco holds the record for the most SAG award nominations. She has received a total of 21 nominations (13 for individual performances, 8 for ensemble performances).

One of only three black actresses  individually nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award this year (Viola Davis and Cicely Tyson are the other two), Aduba plays a mentally unstable prisoner who develops an obsession with another inmate on the show. A theater veteran, she immediately emerged as a fan favorite on the series when it premiered in 2013. Her look, her style, and her character is one that hasn’t been seen on television and struck a chord with viewers. The show, which focuses on a female prison, is also delight to watch as it’s riddled with eclectic characters.

We hope to see Aduba ascend to the stage to accept her prize on Sunday, but whether or not she wins she truly deserves that SAG nod.
